Bradford City legend Stephen Darby was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease nearly eight years ago and he continues to help raise money in the battle against the cruel condition. The start of this month saw the third edition of March of the Day, which was a 340 mile walk around 44 football and rugby league grounds. The trek began on Merseyside at Anfield and the Hill Dickinson Stadium, before ending at the Rob Burrow Centre at Seacroft Hospital. It was an appropriate start and end point, given Darby began his career at Liverpool, while he became firm friends with Burrow, as the former Leeds Rhinos scrum half battled against MND so bravely and publicly until his death in 2024. Along the way, the gruelling walk took in grounds such as Edgeley Park, the Jungle, Valley Parade and Headingley. Bantams staff joined in for parts of the walk, like CEO Ryan Sparks and director of operations Paula Watson, the latter involved for most of the trek. There were also appearances from some of Darby's former team-mates at Valley Parade, like Rory McArdle and Filipe Morais. The walk was completed by Saturday night and as of now, the money raised for Leeds Hospitals Charity and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation stands at an incredible £12,089.25. That means the initial fundraising target of £12,000 has been exceeded, but there is still time to donate further via the embedded link. It was an incredible effort from the walkers, who battled through some difficult weather conditions. The walk had been due to finish early on Saturday morning, but despite the delays, everyone persevered until the very end to get the job done.
