Bradford City have secured the services of midfielder Nick Powell for another season after the 32-year-old signed a new one-year contract. The experienced playmaker, who joined from Stockport County last summer, impressed during pre-season with goals against Halifax Town, SV Gmunden, Preston North End and Salford City.

What led to Powell's new deal?

Powell's contract extension comes after a strong pre-season campaign where he demonstrated his scoring ability in friendlies. Despite a hamstring injury that sidelined him for six months last season, the midfielder's commitment during pre-season training caught the attention of manager Graham Alexander. "Nick's decision to come back in pre-season and show what he can offer proved his desire to everyone here," said Alexander.

How did Powell perform last season?

The midfielder made 14 appearances for the Bantams last season before his injury. His return to form in pre-season has given Bradford City a boost ahead of the new League One campaign. The club finished 4th in the 2025 season with 77 points, scoring 58 goals and conceding 51, ending 26 points behind leaders Lincoln.

What does this mean for Bradford City's midfield?

Powell's experience and goal-scoring threat will be valuable as Bradford City look to build on their strong 2025 season. With the new season approaching, the midfielder's form in pre-season suggests he could play a key role in the team's push for promotion.
