Bradford City's Campion suffered their first setback of the season as they fell 2-1 at home to Retford FC in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. The loss came despite a strong start to the season, which included a 3-0 win over Bradford City XI in the Dave Keegan Memorial Trophy clash. Campion's impressive form was marked by a late double from Corey Billy, who snatched a 3-2 win over Penistone Church on the opening day of the season. However, their winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night as they lost 2-1 at home to Retford FC, last season's United Counties League Division One champions. Aaron Sennett-Neilson put the visitors in front before disaster struck for the Bradford side as Matty Nebard fouled a Retford player running through on goal and was shown a straight red card for being the last man. Iren Wilson scored from the free-kick to leave Campion with a mountain to climb. But former Bradford (Park Avenue) man Sonny Whittingham halved the deficit before the break and Paddy Sykes almost equalised early in the second half. Campion keeper Luke Wilson saved a penalty just after the hour mark, but it did not matter for Retford, who still went on to claim the three points. Thackley got their first point of the season with a goalless draw against Horbury Town. Hass Gorji had two goals disallowed while Bobby Isbell hit the bar on a frustrating night for the Dennyboys. On Tuesday, Albion Sports got their first three points of the season, Lewis Waddington scoring the only goal of their game at Rossington Main, catching the keeper just off his line with a clever strike from long range. Keighley Town, formerly Eccleshill United, suffered a humbling night, losing just their second-ever league game 10-0 at Bottesford Town. Owen Vincent scored four times for the hosts, making it six goals in two league games for him so far this season. Finally, Bradford's newest semi-professional side, Field Olympic, beat Goole on the opening day of the NCEL Division One season, with the two sides meeting again in the NCEL League Cup in midweek. This time, Goole turned the tables, winning 3-1 to advance into the second round, Field's goal coming courtesy of Aidan Day. Bradford City currently sit 4th in League One, 26 points behind leaders Lincoln, with a goal difference of +7 after scoring 58 goals and conceding 51.
