Injury blow to key player
Bradford City manager Graham Alexander confirmed that winger-fullback Tyreik Wright will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after suffering a quad tear. The injury was revealed immediately following the club’s 1-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday. Aden Baldwin’s 48th-minute header secured the win and marked City’s first visit to Hillsborough since February 2005, keeping the club’s record of 100 % wins for the season intact.
Alexander said, “He’s going to be out for probably six to eight weeks, unfortunately. He’s just got a little tear in his quad. So, it’s difficult for us, difficult for Tyreik as well, because obviously we’re a little bit light anyway in those positions.” The winger-fullback’s absence will leave a noticeable gap in City’s attacking and defensive options.
Transfer hunt intensifies
With Wright out, Alexander stressed the need to bring in more wing-back options. “To lose him for that period of time is a bit of a blow for us but we crack on,” he added. He explained that the club is looking for players who fit the system, whether they are wingers, full-backs or midfielders that could be converted.
City’s recruitment team, headed by David Sharpe, Stephen Gent and Ryan Sparks, will continue to work up to the transfer deadline on 1 September. Alexander said, “We’ve got good people at the club, obviously David, Genty and Ryan that can carry on working right up to kick-off.”
The club’s free weekend is upcoming, but the search for reinforcements will continue. “We know we’ve got a really good team and a really good bench to go on. But after that, like last night, that’s it,” Alexander said.
Defensive situation
Defensively, the squad is thin. Only Reece Welch has played in the back line, while Joe Wright has picked up an injury on Monday. Alexander expressed hope that Wright would be fit for the next match. “Hopefully he will be okay for next week,” he said.

Bradford City faces a hectic week with matches against Burnley, Plymouth and Cambridge. The transfer market is described as difficult at the moment, but the club remains committed to finding suitable replacements before the deadline.
